Crusaders v Larne. Sports Direct Premiership. 12th January

11th Jan 2024

It is back to Sports Direct Premiership action on Friday night for Crusaders and Larne are the visitors for the second time in less than a month. It is a big game for both with Crusaders attempting to get back into the race for a top three position in the Premiership whilst Larne look to peg back Linfield who lead the Sports Direct Premiership.

Crusaders will put the Cup exit last week behind them and focus on Premiership football from now to the end of April at least. Disappointed as they are Crusaders will look forward and hit the restart button with a result against Larne the starting point. New signing Stewart Nixon is expected to be ready for selection and could start or at least get a seat on the bench. The returning Jay Boyd and Lewis Barr from loan deals could also get a nod if Stephen feels others need a rest and James Teelan will also be considered after missing against Ards with Johnny Tuffey being called upon in nets after missing because of a broken nose sustained against Linfield. The injury and illness situation is still dominant in the squad but Stephen will send the team out in positive form and three points a must.

Larne sit second in the Premiership four points behind leader Linfield and a win will see that gap put pressure on Linfield who play on Saturday. Tieran Lynchs side are looking to retain the trophy come April but they know that they have a target on their back as Champions and it's proving to be a challenge. Speculation surrounds new signings but Larne will be strong on the field on Friday night and Crusaders will be ready. Leroy Millar is their star man but Lee Bonis, Paul O'Neill, Andy Ryan and Joe Thompson are the main threats up front.
