This match had extra poignancy for the Crusaders’ Strikers as a Titan, Kaylee Black, had sadly passed away at the weekend. Everyone at Crusaders and the wider footballing community was still feeling stunned and upset, yet keen to do Kaylee proud. The match began with a minute’s silence in her memory. Crusaders Strikers were keen to bounce back from defeat. Strikers were pleased to welcome Derry City back and top a strong performance and a win. Both teams started quite nervy but Strikers great into the game. Derry City keeper Naomh Barr pulled off a few great saves from Johnston and McCann. Eventually, a well worked free kick by 17 Redmond to 70 McLaren leads to a lovely shot hitting the bar being followed up by none other than Caitlyn Hamilton. This breaks the Derry defence and lively Faith Johnston bursts into the box and slots home to make it two. Derry City FC are playing well but have not threatened the goal yet. The second half started frantic and both sides were keen to score. Strikers extended their lead with a in swinging corner from the prolific 70 Rachel McLaren. A cracking shot by Morganne Beggs was followed up by Johnston for her second of the night. Derry kept battling and played some neat football in the middle and up front by Strikers were too strong for a break through. Fresh legs for Strikers created more chances and Leah McEvoy’s exquisite lob was accurately cleared off the line by a Derry defender. Leah McEvoy stuck soon after with a cool goal to end the game 5-0. The game was played in a sombre mood in memory of Titan, Kaylee Black. Next game Friday 19th May against nearly promoted Larne Ladies
